MEET SUMMER PENCE

Get To Know Me...
Well to start off, I am sophomore at NC State. Currently, I am in the Exploratory Studies program, but I plan to go into Sports Management.
During my freshman year, I was a Creative Service Intern for NC State Athletics. As a Creative Service Intern, I have the opportunity to shoot and edit photos for all Varsity Pack Athletic teams, excluding Football and Basketball.
I'm also a part-time Social Media Assistant at Cap City Volleyball Club in Raleigh. In addition to running their Social Media Accounts, I also coach at Cap City and help run their youth league in the summers.
This past summer I had the amazing opportunity to work as a Social Media Intern for the Wilkes County Moonshiners.
Currently, I am working as a Marketing Intern with NCFC Youth in Raleigh as well as continuing my Creative Service Internship with Pack Athletics.
Why Sports Media?
Up until my senior of high school, I wanted to go into Sports Medicine. As an athlete, I wasn't ready to leave the sports world behind, so I looked for jobs where I could stay involved in sports. Around this time, I started managing my high school's social media accounts.
Through the guidance of my parents and teachers, I was able to find the world of Sports Media. I quickly fell in love with fast paced environment and knew it was the place for me.

Why Sports?
Growing up, sports were always a big thing in my family. For most of my young childhood, every weekend we would be in a different city with my brothers travel baseball team. When I got old enough, we would be traveling for my own games and tournaments. Most of my childhood memories are centered around sports.
It wasn't until I got older that I realized the impact sports can make on a community. After my junior sports career ended, I felt like I was missing something. During this time, I started to get into hockey and college football. I realized the thing I was missing was sports. I missed the community sports creates. I want to work in sports media because I want to not only be apart of the sports community, I want to help it grow and give people the opportunity to make the memories I cherish so much.
